FYKE has released their first single, "Regret", from their new untitled album being released this year! I've been looking forward to all their new music since their song "Get Myself", which features former k-pop idol and f(x) member Amber Liu, and this song didn't let me down.
In case you don't know who this amazing band is, here's a VERY brief introduction to them. FYKE is a California-based five member pop rock group consisting of lead singer Enik Lin, guitarists Justin Wright and Steven Delman, drummer Gerard Christian, and bassist Mikee Fabella. I hadn't heard of them until "Get Myself", but fell in love with the group after exploring their discography. A lot of their songs focus on social issues and mental health, and I've found comfort in much of their music. This song was no different.
Their new single "Regret" talks about, you guessed it, the feeling of regret. It's an emotional rock ballad that talks about the different regrets you might have in life. Things like not being there for someone or being too self-involved to even realize the pain of loved ones are reflected in lyrics like those in the first pre-chorus: "If I could/Take it back/All the wasted time we had/I’d fill it up with the love that I never gave enough."
Echos of "I'm sorry" are found after the choruses and after the last verse. The words are backed only by a simple guitar melody the first time and a small synth string orchestra sound paired with the same guitar melody the second time. It's like it reflects the mounting guilt and regret felt when someone realizes they've messed up. The final "I'm sorry" is so faint behind the guitar, it sounds like the final breaking point. The point where you finally start crying after reflecting on and remembering all the the things you wish you had done.
The music video reflects this idea too. It shows a bunch of clips with peeks into important, intimate events in members' lives, from funerals, weddings, graduations, and more. The ending of the video reminds us that life is short, and all moments are gifts. It's a black screen with the words "Don't take life for granted. Treasure every moment." It really tugs at the heartstrings and it'll make you want to call your loved ones just to say hello.

The song is touching, emotional, and well-produced. It's worth a listen. Although, if you're in a happy, hyped mood right now, maybe listen to this a little later.
FYKE definitely deserves more recognition as a group, so please check them out, besides just this song!
