Canadian indie artist Suggi has released another song that I will have on repeat.
His latest release "ur just a fan" is a reminiscent post-breakup song with Joji vibes about an ex that still listens to his music. Suggi describes the song as "not about being a fan or anything, [but] just crazy how they went from being my lover to ... essentially just a fan". He describes his feelings in this tweeted image:

Overall, it's a song with fall vibes. The heavy beat and simple melody pair well with a sunny outdoor walk while stepping on those crunchy fall leaves. Typical "fall vibe" songs, for me, are the ones that talk about endings, but aren't overly sad. They also aren't the happy, uppy, songs, but they aren't quite ballads either. The background and textural instrumentals are simple and relaxed, allowing the vocal melody to stand out and tell the story of his relationship and convey his own thoughts and emotions. Once paired with muted, echo-y vocals and expressive lyrics, the song's sad, reflective feel come through without making you feel like crying at the end.
While I really enjoyed the whole song, I think the intro is probably my favorite part. A good intro can really help a song move along and even take it to another level. Suggi's intro to the track is a minimalistic whistled melody and the sound of the lightly strummed guitar, both of which play through almost the whole song in the background. These two things set the song's nostalgic, reminiscent feel. If I were to picture a music video for the song, the intro might be some person sitting outdoors looking at the old pictures from their relationship right before it cuts to some montage of the relationship from beginning to end, and, at the end of the video, it cuts back to the main character and the pictures are burned in a trash can in the backyard. Okay, I may be a little dramatic, so maybe they're just tossed into a trash can, but regardless of the ending, that's the kind of vibe I get. It's not an angry song, and not a super sad song. It's just a song about how the actual relationship is just...over.
I'm obviously not the ex, but I'm a still a fan lol.
Anyway, give Suggi some love and check out the song here:
